Lightning Talk Presentation Guide
The Maize Genetics Conference Lightning Talks are your moment to share your research in a fun, fast, and high-impact format! Selected presenters will give a 2-minute, single-slide “elevator pitch” right before the poster session — a great way to grab attention and spark conversations about your work.
What to Expect
The session takes place immediately before the poster session begins. Sit near the front of the ballroom early so you’re ready when it’s your turn.
Your slide will already be loaded in the presentation deck. When called, walk to the podium, introduce yourself (including your name, institution, and lab/PI), and speak about your slide. There is no need to advance or change it.
Slide Preparation
Set your slide size to 2560 × 1440 pixels (≈ 26.67 × 15 inches).
Export your slide as a .PNG or .JPG file with 96–150 PPI resolution.
Rename the file with your name and version number before uploading it using the Upload Your Slide! button.
You are welcome to upload newer versions of your image, but please limit uploads to no more than 2 versions.
Tips for First-Time Presenters
Add your name and poster number so attendees can easily find you later.
Keep it simple. Focus on one clear message — use minimal text and a few strong visuals.
In your two minutes, cover the essentials: Why is this work important? What was unknown? What did you do? What did you find?
Practice your timing. Staying within the 2-minute limit is key — finishing early is perfectly fine.
Remember, it’s normal to feel nervous! Many presenters say lightning talks are one of the most exciting and energizing parts of the meeting.
